Beetroot Juice Lowers Blood Pressure
According to a new study published in Hypertension - Journal of the American Heart Association , drinking just 500ml of beetroot juice a day can help reduce blood pressure.
The researchers report that BP was “substantially reduced” three hours after consuming the beetroot juice. Moreover, a degree of reduction continued to be observed until up to 24 hours after ingestion.
The reduction in the blood pressure has been correlated with nitrite concentration in the blood plasma, considered to be the likely functional mediator of the beetroot juice-induced effects on blood pressure.

I wish to share my experience with drinking beetroot. I started on beetroot juice on 12 Feb 2008. I juice it with one apple fruit. Today (13 Feb 2008), after getting out of bed and before having any drink or food my BP reading was 131S/83D at 745am. After that i had 500ml of freshly squeezed beetroot with apple juice. At 1035am my BP read 121S/77D. Then at 525pm ny reading was 130S/80D.
Over the next few days i will monitor my BP after drinking beetroot juice and i’ll post my reading daily for you to make your own assessment.
Personally, i noticed the significant drop. I started having hypertension in April 2007. I also experience wellbeing after drinking beetroot.
I hope to read your comments and experiences. Please share. Thank you. (posted on 13 Feb 2008 )

I would like to try the beet juice to lower blood pressure - can it be bought or what is the recipe?

Dear Bobby,
Sorry for taking along time to respond. Here is my answer to your question. I make my own beetroot juice. I buy fresh beetroot (better if organically grown) from the market. After scrubbing the skin i would cut them into pieces and put them into a juicer. I usually use a medium size beetroot and one fresh red apple. Actually I like the combined taste of apple.
I am not missed on the beetroot juice since i started on it on 12 Feb. At my BP reading has been at 120/80 so far. Try it, monitor your reading and see for yourself. I find it works for me. Even my doctor is amazed at my BP readings.

Interested to know about the cancer part? I presume beet root is a beet…. Is that correct?
Do you need a juicer or what do you use.

Dear Readers,
Thanks Jeff Eatough.
Guess what I have been juicing beetroot juice with apple for almost two months now and i monitor my blodd pressure daily in the morning (after i get up from bed). My pressure reading has been constant and today it was at 120/80. It makes me happy.
There is no doubt in my mind that beetroot is doing wonders for my well being.
For those having high BP make beetroot juice part of your diet.
Thanks

Dear Matt,
i just logged on my laptop and saw your email. Please do try and stick to drinking if for sometime and monitor your pressure.
I must confess that I intentionally stopped taking the juice from 05 - 25 April 2008 just to see the reading. I am absolutely happy to see that my pressure reading has been pretty constant at 120/70-80. This is amazing. However because i like the taste of Beet root and apple i take if a few times in teh week for it nutritious purposes.
Drop me a note when you can. Happy trying and hope it brings you desired results. All the best.

Dear John M,
I can’t answer that question because i am not a medical practioner. Perhaps, there are readers out there who can help.
John, i now take beetroot juice mixed with apple juice every other day. It helps me with my anemia as well.
Sorry for the late response, i was away.
Thanks

Dear Phillip,
Beetroot or table beet is a root vegetable. In the 19th century it was known as “blood turnip” You can buy it fresh from your local grocery store.
Beetroot can be eaten raw. You just need to peel it and it’s ready to use. To extract juice use a juicer or better still a cold press juicer to retain its nutrients.
In Malaysia we have organic farm that grows beetroot and there a few supermarket here that sells fresly squeeze beetroot juice in bottles. Its life shelf is only a day.
I hope my reply helps you.

Jane, can we have an update on your beetroot progress please, I’m very interested to know the effects longer term. Also, have you cut down on your intake? What is your BP like now?
Do you take garlic suppliments also?
Anyone else have similar experiences, please share!
many thanks
Michael.

I like eating beet root (cooked) - I eat a couple a day. Will that have the same impact on my
blood pressure as dringen 500 ml of juice. How
