In addition, recent studies also discovered more health benefits beyond just total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol […]

Health Benefits of Sunflower Seeds

Boost your salad’s health factor with a handful of sunflower seeds! Aside from being naturally rich in folate (perfect from pregnant women!) and antioxidant Vitamin E, sunflower seeds are also packed with mono- and poly-unsaturated fats which help keep the bad cholesterol away. It’s also high in selenium and copper, which, together with Vit. E, […]

Drink Wine, Eat Chocolate, Stay Young

Indulge a bit in wine and chocolate, socialize and stay physically active: those are the secrets to keeping old age at bay.
In his new book, “The Science of Staying Young“, John Morley, M.D., director of the division of geriatric medicine at Saint Louis University, says:

Boiled Peanuts Contain the Most Antioxidants

How do you like your peanuts? Roasted? As peanut butter? A study comparing the different peanut preparations revealed that boiled peanuts makes them superior in terms of antioxidant power.
They found that boiled peanuts contained up to four times more isoflavones than raw peanuts or oil- and dry-roasted ones.

Product Review: Nature Valley Roasted Nut Crunch

Last week, I received a couple of boxes Nature Valley Nut Crunch Bars (Almond Crunch and Peanut Crunch) for review. At first I thought they were some new variation of chewy granola bars, but upon closer inspection realized they really were just roasted nuts held together by some syrup, much like peanut brittle, except that […]

Corazonas: Heart-Healthy Tortilla Chips

I received sample packets of Corazonas for review a few months ago, and honestly though I wrote about them, only to realize that, whoops, I completely overlooked it! Absolutely unforgivable, considering how I loved them! I’m not your potato-chips kind of nibbler; and I’d rather have tortilla chips anytime. I like it that they are […]

Pumpkin Pie Aside

Autumn is approaching and it’s pumpkin time! Did you know that half a cup of pumpkin provides nearly 200 percent of your daily requirement of Vitamin A?
And yet, it’s not a popular choice as source of beta-carotene, the precursor of Vitamin A, probably because the recipes we know are also packed with calories and […]

More Chocolatey Healthy Goodness

I was browsing Healther’s 50 Things You Can Do With Chocolate and followed the links to those which seemed to be eating-related (yes, there’s more to chocolate than just popping it in your mouth, apparently).
Aside from being good for the heart and brain, the theobromine in chocolate “may have therapeutic effects when given at the […]
