Ginger May Be a Viable Treatment Against Infant Diarrhea

by ruth on October 1st, 2007

14 Oz Fresh Ginger In an animal study, ginger extract has been demonstrated to help treat diarrhea caused by enterotoxigenic strains of E. coli. This type of gastrointestinal disorder is the leading cause of infant death in developing countries, accounting for 210 million cases of diarrhea worldwide and causes 380,000 deaths yearly.

“In conclusion, our findings provide evidence that ginger and its derivatives may be effective herbal supplements for the clinical treatment of enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli diarrhea,” the researchers state. Additional studies are needed to determine the effective doses of ginger needed and whether it is safe for infants, who may experience unexpected side effects from large doses.

The study, “Ginger and Its Bioactive Component Inhibit Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli Heat-Labile Enterotoxin-Induced Diarrhea in Mice,” will be published in the Oct. 3 issue of the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry.

    Hi

Three years ago I was told I had adult onset diabetes. I had been hospitalized for a heart problem and my admission blood glucose was 280. I was send home with insulin, and several prescriptions for oral diabetic drugs like Actos. I took this medication for about six months, Then I bought a book Dr.Bernstiens DIabetes Solution. My blood glucose has been under one thirty for the past two and a half years. However, I eat under twenty grams of carb a day. (On bad days which are few and far between I might have thirty or forty. ) I also run four miles a hour for forty five minutes a day on a treadmill and do free weights. I feel that by avoiding the “whites” I have regained my health.
