Honey Heals

by ruth on February 12th, 2007

Berard French Olive Wood Crafted Honey Spreader Spoon… well a lot of maladies apparently, as listed in this article on the healing powers of honey. I know about it’s immunotherapeutic effects on hay fever or pollen allergies, but I didn’t imagine that the oral consumption of honey could work against insomnia, osteoporosis, and cough, among others.

Even if these were true, I don’t think it’s a good idea to use honey in a baby’s bottle, and not because “it’s just too rich”, as the article suggests. Although honey can inhibit bacterial infections, its sugar concentration may not be high enough to kill molds spores, and may thus pose risks, particularly to very young children. And besides, you don’t want to get your child cut that sweet tooth too early, would you?

2 opinions for Honey Heals

Honey has amazing antiseptic qualities, and is wonderful for soothing minor scrapes and major sunburn. Young children absolutely, positively should not consume honey without express approval from a pediatrician because of a potentially serious reaction they can have, I believe until the age of 2.
