Let Food Be Your Medicine
It’s been barely three months since my first post, welcoming you all and introducing you the fabulous world of functional foods. I’ve had a lot of fun learning and writing about the medicinal powers of food. Isn’t it so fascinating to see how something so “trivial”, something so day-to-day, can prevent us from contracting so many health disorders? Eating is not just about satisfying hunger. Foods also have the power to heal. As Hippocrates said,
“Let your food be your medicine, and your medicine be your food “
That’s the focus of this blog. Functional foods. Nutraceuticals. Medicinal Foods. Healing Foods. I hope that Eating Fabulous can help in making people appreciate food, not only for its nutritional value, or for its ability to satisfy primal needs, but also for its abilities to promote health and even cure illnesses.
And no, I’m not solely looking at those traditionally branded as “healthy food” or “nutritious foods”. Heck, some functional foods are not that nutritious, and some will wreck your weight-loss plans. Take a look at my previous posts on chocolate, spiced wines, and even chocolate chip cookes. But they confer medicinal properties, which is what earned them a place in this blog.
This blog is the baby in Science and Health Channel of b5media. I’ve got lots to learn, lots to share and lots to, er, eat. Help me improve Eating Fabulous. What do you like about EatingFab? What do you like to see more of? Do you believe in the power of nutrition to heal? Leave me a comment below or send me an email!

hi ruth!
i enjoy reading your posts! as a nutritionist myself, i know i’ve got loads more to learn of ‘functionals’. and everyday snippets on whatever’s new is always an added bonus, be it trivial (or so day-to-day as you called it) or just totally new (as in news-breaking new). see, i got your feed. “,)

Hi Ruth, I don’t take any medicine. I’m 75. I’ve always tryed to eat healthy. Real food. I’ve had an ‘almost’ doctor free life! If I’m tired, I rest. If I’m getting a headache, I eat some protein..peanut butter, egg, or meat..and sit down or lie down and relax..instead of taking 2 aspirins. Also, Just talking with the Lord for awhile..does wonders! ~ Owita

Hi Ruth, I stayed with an altzheimer’s lady in her eighties..and she would cheer up a bit when I brought her picture books and apples or oranges; and after I had been there a few hours, she would call me by name. I was in my late forties then. She was so dear and gentle and we had a routine of eating, resting, walking, and tv programs she liked. Your website is great! ~ Owita

I agree with this great idea. I believe in nature and to exercise. - Chariya.
