Ooops, it’s already the middle of the week and not a single new entry here at Eating Fabulous. Sorry for that. My two month old daughter has been admitted to the hospital for bronchiolitis. She’s ok now, but what concerns me is this, especially because asthma runs in our family:
Kids who have had bronchiolitis may […]

What is DHA, aka Omega 3? Why is it important? Who needs it? What foods are naturally rich in it? Are there alternative sources?
Here’s an excellent reading material about Omega 3s from the WebMD. The website is sponsored by lifesdha, a manufacturer of DHA supplements sourced from algae instead of fish, so expect a lot […]

The Science Daily article points to recent studies explaining how DHA may reduce […]

Although it has been suggested that the benefits of eating fish on cardiovascular health and mortality far outweighs the risks due to environmental pollutants, I suppose that is assuming one eats a variety of fish types. If you eat bluefin tuna this week and sardines next week, that’s better than always eating bluefin tuna, a […]

Despite all the health benefits of eating fish, many people are worried about the dangers posed by environmental pollutants found in fish such as mercury, PCBs and dioxins.
In what they claim to be the “single most comprehensive analysis to date of fish and health”, researchers from the Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) reviewed […]

Based on a long-term (1987-2004) study of 90,000 Swedish women, eating at least one portion per week of fatty fish such as salmon, raw herring, sardines and mackerel significantly reduced the risk of renal cancer by 74 per cent compared with those who never ate fatty fish.
“This is the first time that a link […]

Aside from being good for the heart, the omega-3 fatty acids typically found in cold water fish may also help in treating prostate cancer. In animal trials, researchers have shown that feeding mice with a 1:1 ratio of omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids reduced prostate tumor growth rates and lowered PSA levels.
The most likely […]
